My top five Paris Attractions in no particular order

The Eiffel Tower

Paris - Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower, about 300 metres high, was one of the first tall structures in the world to use passenger elevators.

One of the most popular attractions in all of France, a trip to the top will afford you stunning views across the city.

Romantics will love the restaurant on the eleventh floor where you can also have a panoramic view, and you can see for forty two miles on a clear day.

The names of notable French scientists and engineers are engraved here, and there is an ice skating rink on the first floor in winter.

Arc de Triomphe

Paris - Arc De Triomphe
In the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle, stands the Arc de Triomphe, one of the most famous monuments in France.

Inspired by the Roman Arch of Titus, the Arc is perfectly situated in the centre of the largest roudabout in the world.

164 feet high, there is a museum inside, outlining the history of the Arc since its beginnings in 1806 by order of Napoleon I.

It took thirty years to complete the magnificent structure, and the names of generals who served under Napoleon are engraved here.

The Louvre Museum

Paris - The Louvre
One of the oldest museums in Europe, and perhaps the most famous in the world, is the Louvre Museum, home to the 'Mona Lisa' by da Vinci.

Apart from art there are many other exhibits shown here such as archaeology and beautiful sculptures.

The main entrance is fascinating, with a large glass and metal pyramid leading down to the magnificent lobby, and then rising into the museum itself.

The Louvre Museum is in my opinion one of the best paris attractions, and if visiting the city then it's one of the things you simply have to see.

The Sacré Coeur Basilica

Paris - Sacré Coeur
At the top of Montemarte Hill in Paris stands the beautiful Sacré Coeur (Sacred Heart) church.

Built at the end of the nineteenth century, Sacré Coeur is a place of catholic devotion to the Virgin Mary.

The second highest structure in Paris next to the Eiffel Tower, has a large white dome at the top which makes a most impressive sight.

The dome is open to tourists and due to the scenic views of Paris which can be seen from here, it has become one of the great Paris attractions. In the complex you will find a garden for meditation, and a fountain.

Notre Dame Cathedral

Paris - Notre Dame Cathedral
Made famous by Victor Hugo's Hunchback of Notre Dame, Quasimodo, this gothic building is still in use as a Roman Catholic cathedral and is the seat of the Archbishop of Paris.

During the French Revolution, many of the Cathedrals treasures were plundered or destroyed, but the great bells survived, and the Cathedral was used for storing food. This is one of the great historical Paris attractions.

Beautiful statues of saints hover above the portals, and for its history and architecture alone, Notre Dame Cathedral is well worth seeing.
