Switzerland is a non-coastal country tucked in western Europe and bordered by France, Germany, Austria, and Italy.

Although landlocked, fine beaches are to be found around the tranquil lakes, with stunning views of the Alps and the surrounding countryside. Of course the Alps are a popular destination for skiers in winter, but there is a lot to do on Switzerland vacations all year round.

If you're the active type and relish a challenge, there are a wide range of climbing & mountaineering packages to whet your appetite along with ice climbing on glacier tours, and of course, skiing and snowboarding.

In summer the sun can be shining until 10pm :

The long summer months sees packed garden terraces and the place comes alive with classical concerts, festivals and all sorts of activities.

The valleys and mountains are a favourite haunt for hiking, trekking and cycling on the vast expanse of cycle routes.

Attractions, sights, history and culture can be found in the major cities. Berne, the capital, has the Historical Museum and the Collection of the Bern Museum of Fine Arts.

The lake Geneva district is, quite simply, magical :

In Leysen you can take a cable car to the Kuklos restaurant, perched atop the Berneuse mountain. The restaurant rotates a full 360 degrees, while you marvel at the spectacular views of Mont Blanc and the Eiger.

Switzerland vacations have to include a visit to Geneva. The Old Town district is littered with cafes and boutiques, and the cobbled streets lead you to an extensive range of galleries and museums.

Don't miss the 698 acre Geneva State Park with it's camp sites and picnic groves, and also worth visiting is Chillon Castle. For shopping there is the famous Market Street.

At least twelve other coutries are connected to Switzerland by rail, but with so much to do you'll most likely want to stay here.

My Geneva Vacation
My Geneva vacation was almost as romantic as Paris. A bit expensive mind you, but if you feel like being extravagant, then this is the place. If you actually remember to eat, the food is quite good too.
